Chair Professors

CHENG Chengkung

Prof. CHENG is the Chair Professor of School of Biomedical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Director of Engineering Research Center of Digital Medicine and Clinical Translation of the Ministry of Education

His primary research interests are in the application of biomechanics to problems relevant to musculoskeletal disease. He is particularly interested in the development of orthopaedic implants and has published 250+ peer-reviewed journal papers, 10+ books or book chapters on orthopaedic related topics, and 60+ approved international patents. His lab now focuses on 1) developing assistive devices/software for musculoskeletal diseases using biomechanics and deep learning; 2) exploring the underlying pathway between gene and phenotype on musculoskeletal diseases using big data analysis; 3) biomechanical function of hard-soft tissue (bone-ligament) interface to better understand and reduce clinical complications related with ligament reconstruction.

Prof. Cheng-Kung Cheng received his bachelor’s degree from National Cheng Kung University, master’s and Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa. He was Distinguished Professor of Thousand Talents Program of Beihang University in Beijing since 2011. He was the President of Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society, Council Member of World Congress Biomechanics, Board Member of Directors of World Associations for Chinese Biomedical Engineers, Board Member of Directors of International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Society, President of Orthopaedic Research Society of Taiwan, President of Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics, and President of Taiwanese Orthopaedic Device Development Association. Meanwhile Prof. Cheng is the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices, Associate Editors of Applied Sciences, Arthroplasty, Medical Engineering & Physics, Asia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy and Editorial Board Member of Clinical Biomechanics and Spine for many years. He was Co-Editors-in-Chief of Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research for six years. In 2016, Prof. Cheng got the awards of Overseas Chinese Contribution Award of 11th International Congress of Chinese Orthopaedic Association and Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy of University of Iowa College of Engineering.
