Biography

Dr. Junfeng Sun is the Tenured Associate Professor of biomedical engineering at School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interests include neuromodulation techniques, neuroimaging analysis, and their applications. He observed the neuroprotective effects of transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) preconditioning for subsequent focal cerebral ischemia in rats and the antidepressant effects of TUS in rats. He has developed integrated TUS system and real time TUS navigation system based on optical tracking, and are working for the applications of TUS on depression and other mental disorders. He also performs EEG/neuroimaging data analysis, develops EEG/neuroimaging based individualized transcranial magnetic stimulation, and applies them to investigate cognitive function and brain abnormalities in mental disorders (e.g., depression, schizophrenia), stroke, dementia, and Parkinson's disease.

He has published more than 50 refereed papers in SCI journals such as NeuroImage, Brain Stimulation, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems & Rehabilitation Engineering, Signal Processing, Neurophotonics, Biological Psychology, and Scientific Reports. He has gotten grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China (PI), National Key R&D Program of China (Co-PI), National Basic Research Program of China (Co-PI), Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai, China (PI), and Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, China (PI). He is IEEE Senior Member (2015-), Associate Editor of Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing (2018-), Academic Editor of BioMed Research International (2020-), Associate Editor of Frontiers in Neuroergonomics (2020-), Chair of Local Organizing Committee for 2017 IEEE EMBS Neural Engineering Conference (NER’17), Session Chair for the session Brain Functional Imaging I of IEEE EMBC 2017, Session Chair for the session Brain Therapy of 17th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound, reviewers for more than 30 international journals, reviewer for Grant Proposal for National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

He instructs the undergraduate course Biomedical Signals and Systems (I) and the graduate course Biomedical Signal Processing, provides supervision for Ph.D. students and MS students, and acts as advisor/tutor for undergraduate students.
