Biography

Dr. Pei-Ji Liang is Professor & group head, Laboratory for Neural Information Processing, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her research has long been focused on studying the functional organization of vertebrate retinas, specially visual information processing in retinal ganglion cells. By applying electrophysiological recording technique, together with computational and modeling approaches, her laboratory has been investigating the contribution of single cell activity and the spatiotemporal pattern of population activity in encoding retinal visual information in response to changing stimulation and during adaptation to sustained stimulation. Her laboratory is the first one in mainland China applying multi-electrode array (MEA) recording technique to study the neural population activity. Her research work has been supported by National Science Foundation of China and Ministry of Science and Technology of China. She has also been awarded Natural Science Award by Shanghai Municipal Government.

Dr. Liang graduated from Department of Precision Instrumentation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University with B.Sc./M.Sc. in 1985/1988 (major in Biomedical Engineering), and obtained a D.Phil. degree from Department of Physiology, University of Oxford. She was a council member of Chinese Neuroscience Society, Chinese Biophysics Society, Shanghai Neuroscience Society, and Shanghai Biophysics Society. She also served as an Associate Editor of Acta Biophysica Sinica and editorial board member of Acta Physiologica Sinica. She contributed to Cihai, the 6th edition. She is currently an associate editor of Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience.
