Congratulations to Prof.Cheng-Kung Cheng on his election as president of the World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers(WACBE)

April 27, 2022

The 10th WACBE World Congress on Bioengineering was hold at Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China from April 22 to 23, 2022. The Congress attracts about 400 delegates from all over the world, including academic researchers, industry leaders, medical experts, and trainees. Prof.Cheng-Kung Cheng of school of Biomedical Engineering was elected as president of WACBE.

Prof.Cheng-Kung Cheng is the Chair Professor of School of Biomedical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Director of Engineering Research Center for Digital Medicine and Clinical Translation of Ministry of Education. His primary research interests are in the application of biomechanics to problems relevant to musculoskeletal disease. He is particularly interested in the development of orthopaedic implants and has published 250+ peer-reviewed journal papers, 10+ books or book chapters on orthopaedic related topics, and 60+ approved international patents. His lab now focuses on 1) developing assistive devices/software for musculoskeletal diseases using biomechanics and deep learning; 2) exploring the underlying pathway between gene and phenotype on musculoskeletal diseases using big data analysis; 3) biomechanical function of hard-soft tissue (bone-ligament) interface to better understand and reduce clinical complications related with ligament reconstruction.

Word Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE)

The World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE) is a nonprofit professional society. The Association was established in 2003 under the auspices of the Asian American Institute for Research and Education. The Asian American Institute for Research and Education is a nonprofit organization in the Common wealth of Pennsylvania, established on July 17, 1997.

The missions of the association are: (1) to network the world-wide Chinese professionals and students in the field of biomedical engineering; (2) to promote basic and translational research in the field; (3) to encourage students to become biomedical engineers; (4) to facilitate the professional and career development of its members; (5) to promote cooperation among and between industrialists and academics; and (6) to establish a spirit of international cooperation in biomedical engineering.

The WACBE World Congress on Bioengineering focuses on biomedical engineering approaches that drive innovative technologies and foster solutions that directly impact clinical medical practice. The Congress offers a platform, that the attendees can collaborate on the clinical translation of biomedical technologies. The Congress attracts numerous delegates from all over the world, including academic researchers, industry leaders, medical experts, and trainees. They gather in the Congress to share their experience on bioengineering and showcase contributions that biomedical engineers bring to the health care sector, with new applications that are vital to the quality of life. The WACBE World Congress has been organized for 10 times in different places around the world: Taipei (China, 2001 and 2019), Beijing (China, 2004 and 2013), Bangkok (Thailand, 2007), Hong Kong (China, 2009 and 2017), Tainan (China, 2011), Singapore (2015), and Shengzhen (China, 2022).
