Successful Conclusion of the 1st MED-X International Conference at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On December 8th and 9th, the inaugural MED-X International Conference, themed "Interdisciplinary Fusion in Medicine and Engineering: Exploring an Innovative Future," was successfully held at the Xuhui/Minhang campuses of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The conference was jointly organized by the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Med-X Research Institute. The event aimed to establish a high-level international platform for academic exchange, delve into cutting-edge issues in biomedical engineering, share the latest research findings and advancements, and promote the continuous development of the biomedical engineering discipline. Over 50 academicians, expert scholars, and academic leaders from around the world were invited to deliver keynote speeches and presentations in various sessions. The conference adopted a hybrid format, with over 300 in-person attendees and more than 2500 online viewers.

The opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Hong'en Liao, Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, commenced with a warm welcome to the esteemed guests. Dean Liao provided insights into the current status of the School of Biomedical Engineering and highlighted the significance of the MED-X International Conference, Med-X Journal, and the distinguished participants.

Professor Xuemin Xu, the Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Conference Chairman, warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the rapid development of the field of biomedical engineering globally. He discussed the preparations for the MED-X International Conference, underlining its founding principles and theme, "Integrating Biomedicine & Engineering, Exploring Innovative Future." Professor Xu expressed her hope that interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts during the conference would drive the advancement of the biomedical engineering discipline.

Director Yan outlined the center's development plan, emphasizing its goal to establish an internationally advanced brain imaging research center that supports the national brain initiative and contributes to original innovations addressing major neurological disorders.

On the morning of December 9th, the Global Biomedical Engineering Education Forum and the High-Quality Development Forum for Journals were conducted. Professor Jin Xuejun, Executive Vice Dean, and Professor Bai Jingfeng, Associate Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, jointly chaired the Global Biomedical Engineering Education Forum. Professors John Brendan Troy of Northwestern University in the United States, Yu Xin of Case Western Reserve University, Wang Yunbing of Sichuan University, and Vice President Xu Xuemin of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, among other renowned professors, delivered insightful keynote speeches. The experts shared developments in their respective biomedical engineering schools, discussing institutional status, teaching quality, program and curriculum design, educational objectives, and outcomes. The forum facilitated in-depth exchanges on global trends and challenges in biomedical engineering education, promising a profound impact on the future development of this field.
