October 30, 2025

On the afternoon of October 27, the inaugural session of the School of Biomedical Engineering’s "Med-Engineering Intelligence Launch" Lecture Series was successfully held in the lecture hall of the Wenxuan Medical Building. Associate Dean Gu Bobo delivered the opening address, welcoming the attending students and briefly introducing Dean Liao Hongen‘s outstanding achievements in the field of minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy. He noted that this lecture series aims to deepen students’ professional understanding through extracurricular learning, providing strong support for their future academic development and career choices.

The lecture specially invited Dean Liao Hongen of the School of Biomedical Engineering to present a talk titled "Intelligent Precision Diagnosis and Therapy — The New 'Eyes,' 'Hands,' and 'Brain' of Physicians." In his presentation, Dean Liao offered a comprehensive and detailed introduction to biomedical engineering as an interdisciplinary field, covering multiple dimensions including disciplinary prospects, industry trends, and research frontiers. He highlighted key research directions such as surgical robotics, medical imaging, and surgical navigation, encouraging students to bravely explore uncharted territories.

During the Q&A session, students actively raised questions focusing on areas such as medical robot control, medical data acquisition, and intraoperative display. Drawing on his own experiences and clinical insights, Dean Liao answered the students' questions with professionalism and wit.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Dean Liao encouraged everyone to aspire to tackle the "gray rhino" challenges that seriously undermine human health, to create "black technologies" capable of safeguarding the lives of millions of patients, and to strive to become future leaders in the field of medical-engineering integration.
