On the morning of March 18, the inaugural Med-X Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp was successfully held at the New Upper House on the Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Co-organized by the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Beijing Cihua Medical Development Foundation, the bootcamp focuses on the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, and assisted reproduction, aiming to provide comprehensive training and services for innovators and entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector.

Attendees at the opening ceremony included Sun Yun, Director of the Reproductive Medicine Center at Renji Hospital; Chen Jiangping, Party Secretary of the School of Biomedical Engineering; and Ye Jian, Associate Dean of the School. The ceremony was presided over by Tong Hui, Director of the Med-X Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp.

In his opening address, Party Secretary Chen Jiangping extended a warm welcome to the expert mentors, industry elites, and bootcamp participants attending the ceremony. He noted that China's biomedical engineering industry has entered a "fast track," with vast potential markets and development opportunities in the "comprehensive health" sector, creating an urgent need for more innovative and entrepreneurial talents in healthcare. He pointed out that through over a decade of development, the School of Biomedical Engineering has achieved remarkable progress in disciplinary strength, medical resources, and platform construction. He expressed his hope that the bootcamp would serve as an opportunity to empower innovation across multiple dimensions—including mindset, perspective, and execution—and help participants complete the "0-to-1" innovation translation more efficiently.

Director Sun Yun emphasized in his speech that a comprehensive technological layout in the field of reproductive health is a rare and valuable opportunity to promote the healthy, orderly, and sustainable development of reproductive medicine. He encouraged participants with entrepreneurial aspirations in obstetrics, gynecology, and assisted reproduction to start from clinical needs, be driven by technological innovation, and receive comprehensive innovation training and services on this university-hospital co-established research platform, ultimately helping to improve future assisted reproduction penetration rates and bringing benefits to the construction of a fertility-friendly society.

Following a brief and engaging ice-breaking activity, the bootcamp invited seasoned entrepreneurs, executives from multinational medical companies, gold-medal entrepreneurship mentors, and investment firm partners to share key insights into medical entrepreneurship, introduce entrepreneurial methodologies, and present case studies of medical innovation translation.

In the afternoon session, Zhang Hao, Chairman of Shenzhen Edan Instruments Inc., shared several key factors that enabled Edan to win user favor and market recognition, drawing on two successful business cases: "Fetal Monitoring" and "Maternal and Child Informatization." Deng Jinghui, Co-founder of Guanghui Medical, delivered a presentation titled "From Ideas Generation to Commercialization," in which he specifically analyzed the lessons learned during the marketization of two case products: the "CO₂ Incubator" and the "Domestic Endoscopic Stapler." Huang Jialin, Founder of Linlang Chuangxing, introduced the twenty common reasons for startup failure and nine directions for improving business viability. Yu Fang, Partner at Northern Light Venture Capital, elaborated on the development trends and key points of attention in early-stage investment and financing projects in obstetrics and gynecology from an investor's perspective.

During the second day of the bootcamp, Professor Gu Hongchen, Associate Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, shared unique insights on "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Originating from Universities," drawing on his own experience in research translation. Professor Qian Dahong of the School delivered a systematic lecture on the entire process of medical technology innovation, grounded in the core content of Biodesign and with a focus on the distinctive features of medical innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Xu Feng, Director of the Discipline Planning Office at Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, analyzed the practical problems encountered in medical innovation translation and explored potential pathways from the perspective of medical institutions. Liu Pu, General Manager of Hansai Medical, delivered a presentation titled "Pre-Product-Development Project Evaluation and Customer Need Discovery," using specific case studies to illustrate the importance of conducting clinical observations and needs identification and screening throughout medical innovation projects.

It is reported that this Med-X Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp is SJTU's first entrepreneurship training program focused specifically on the healthcare sector, and will conduct six themed training sessions over the course of one year. The Med-X Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp is committed to becoming a bellwether in the smart healthcare field and an annual innovation and entrepreneurship盛会, integrating resources and technologies from hospitals, enterprises, and universities to advance the innovative development of smart healthcare technology and contribute to creating a better future for human society.
