With spring in full bloom on campus, in celebration of the 129th anniversary of our alma mater, numerous alumni from the School of Biomedical Engineering (BME) returned to campus to participate in a series of alumni symposiums and other events, rekindling old friendships and jointly celebrating the school’s birthday.

Alumni Check-in and Souvenir Package Collection

The school prepared exclusive commemorative gift packages for each alumni. Alumni posed for photos holding themed placards, reliving fond memories amid laughter and joy, with the venue filled with warmth and emotion.

Graduation Gown Photo Session: Capturing Memories of Youth

In front of the Wenxuan Medical Building, the school prepared graduation gowns for alumni to take commemorative photos. Under the camera lens, alumni stood side by side, recreating their graduation scenes, or took family photos, creating beautiful campus memories.

Charitable Donations: Ties to Alma Mater, Building the Future Together

On the day of the anniversary, the school held a donation campaign for the BME Education Development Fund. Alumni contributed to the school through on-site donations, and the school prepared customized gifts for donors as keepsakes.

Alumni Cheng Minghe Symposium with Faculty and Students

Minghe Cheng, co-founder of Mindray Medical, along with alumni representatives from Class 80103 — Guanghan Xu, Weiming Zhu, Peiji Liang, and Dianguang Ma — together with Jiangping Chen, Director of the Asset Management and Laboratory Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yi Li, Deputy Director of the Development and Liaison Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Lingti Kong, Party Secretary of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Chunling Zhu, Deputy Party Secretary of the School, as well as faculty and student representatives, attended the symposium.

Lingti Kong reported to Minghe Cheng and the Class 80103 alumni representatives on the school‘s recent development overview, the progress of Jiahe Building construction, and the status of various scholarship and teaching grant programs. Jiangping Chen expressed gratitude to the Class 80103 alumni for their care and support to the school during his tenure at BME. Through intergenerational dialogue, the symposium consolidated a consensus among alumni to “remember the source when drinking water” and give back to their alma mater, and among faculty and students to jointly pursue development, injecting new momentum into the school’s talent cultivation.

United Imaging Alumni Symposium with Young Faculty

Qiang Zhang, Chairman and Co-CEO of United Imaging Healthcare, Xiaojie Lin, Vice President of the X-ray Business Unit at United Imaging Healthcare, Lingti Kong, Party Secretary of the School of Biomedical Engineering, and Jian Ye, Associate Dean of the School, attended the meeting and engaged in dialogue with young faculty representatives.

Drawing on United Imaging‘s practical experience, Qiang Zhang suggested that young faculty should deeply integrate academic research with industry pain points. Jian Ye introduced the school’s progress in building platforms for medical imaging and intelligent diagnostics. The symposium opened up channels for young faculty to interact with leading industry enterprises, further promoting the translation of academic research into applications.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project Alumni Symposium

Liming Xue, Chairman of Shenzhen Meicheng Medical Co., Ltd., Yan Xi, Chairman of Yijing Medical, Hangdao Li, Secretary-General of the SJTU Medical Device Alumni Association, and Ye Wang, Deputy Secretary-General, together with Lingti Kong, Party Secretary of the School, and Chunling Zhu, Deputy Party Secretary of the School, attended the meeting. The event was hosted by Hanchuan Yu, Secretary of the School Youth League Committee.

At the symposium, alumni drew on their entrepreneurial experiences in the medical engineering field to provide evaluations on project conception, feasibility, scalability, and expected outcomes, while also offering specific recommendations on enhancing core competitiveness, strengthening technology promotion, optimizing business models, and expanding clinical collaboration. All attendees agreed to deepen school-enterprise cooperation in the future and help the school incubate more medical engineering projects with social value.
