The 3rd IEEE EMBS International Summer School of Neural Engineering
September 19, 2017
The 3rd IEEE EMBS International Summer School of Neural Engineering (or ISSNE’17) was successfully held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xuhui Campus, from August 13 to August 18, 2017. ISSNE has been a platform for next generation of leading researchers in neural engineering. ISSNE’17 focused on the topic on “Multimodal Neuroimaging”, jointly organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Biomedical Engineering and Hanix (Shenzhen), with support from IEEE EMBS, IEEE EMBS Shanghai Chapter, Chinese Society for Neural Engineering.
More than 20 students, post-doctors and junior faculty from America, Korea, Egypt and China attended the summer school. ISSNE’17 also organized a student forum for poster and slide presentations. ISSNE’17 invited leading scientists and experts in neural engineering to give lectures and seminar talks in the summer school, including Dr. Randall Barbour from SUNY downstate medical center in USA, Dr. Hasan Ayaz from Drexel University in USA, Dr. Murat Yücel and Dr. Chao Suo from Monash University in Australia, Dr. Yufeng Zang from Hangzhou Normal University, Prof. Ching-po Lin from Yangming University of Taiwan, Dr. Shanbao Tong from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dr. Yingying Tang and Dr. Xiangfei Hong from Shanghai Mental Health Center. The lectures and seminar talks covered the frontiers in the field of multimodal neuroimaging, including functional near-infrared imaging techniques, EEG signal techniques, diffusion tensor imaging techniques, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques, as well as multimodal imaging techniques and disease-related imaging researches.
During the summer school, students visited Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Mental Health Center. On the evening of August 16th, they also had a night cruise in Huangpu River. In Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare Co., Ltd, they visited the company’s complete product line of imaging, including CT, ultrasound, and MRI products, and their remarkable success in China. In Shanghai mental health center, the students visited the MRI center and participate a fMRI experiment. Dr. Yingying Tang also introduced the EEG-fMRI synchronization acquisition system and transcranial magnetic stimulator to the students.
At the farewell dinner, the Chair of the ISSNE’17, Prof. Shanbao Tong, issued the certificates to all students, and announced the winners of the Best Presentation Awards and Travel Awards.
