It aims to become a comprehensive international top journal in the field of biomedical engineering, report breakthrough new discoveries and new technologies, and promote the interdisciplinary integration and innovative development of biomedical engineering. Med-X is co-edited by Professor Xu Xuemin, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Professor Li Song, Director of Bioengineering Department of UCLA, USA. The editorial committee is composed of 157 top international scientists from 16 countries, including 20 academicians at home and abroad and 34 highly cited scholars.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Arnout Jacobs, Vice President of Springer Nature, Ms. Li Xian, Director of Springer Nature Greater China, Professor Song Li, co-editor-in-chief of Med-X and Director of Bioengineering Department at UCLA, Academician Feng Dagan of the University of Sydney, Academician Cheng Jing of Tsinghua University, Academician Gu Ning of Southeast University, Professor Chen Jun of UCLA, Professor Xu Xuemin, Vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Chen Jiangping, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Professor Jin Xuejun, Executive Vice president of the School of Biomedical Engineering, and more than one hundred biomedical engineering experts and scholars from home and abroad. The ceremony was presided over by Tan Yi, director of the Journal Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
Professor Jin first expressed his warm congratulations to Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Springer Nature Publishing, and also expressed his heartfelt thanks to scholars at home and abroad for their great support to the establishment of the journal. Professor Jin said that after ten years of rapid development, the School of Biomedical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has achieved impressive research achievements. It is believed that MED-X will become an important platform for academic sharing and communication among researchers, and promote the high-quality development of biomedical engineering in China.
On behalf of Springer Nature, Arnout Jacobs congratulated the launch of Med-X. Mr. Jacobs pointed out that MED-X has a high-level, international and professional editorial board team. In the future, MED-X will carry out in-depth and specific research on the key research directions in the field of biomedical engineering, and comprehensively display the basic research, applied research and cutting-edge interactive new technologies and new discoveries in the field of biomedical engineering in China.
Professor Xu Xuemin and Ms. Li Xian, on behalf of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Springer nature respectively, signed the contract online and successfully reached the founding cooperation relationship.
Professor Xu Xuemin analyzed the development of biomedical engineering and the publication of journals in China. At present, China still has plenty of development opportunities in the establishment of SCI journals in the field of biomedical engineering, and more world-class comprehensive BME interdisciplinary journals are urgently needed to further enhance China's global influence and academic leadership in the field of biomedical engineering. She mentioned that the establishment of MED-X adhere to the top-level design, relying on the solid academic and faculty foundation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the School of Biomedical Engineering, aiming to become the international top comprehensive journal in the field of biomedical engineering. Finally, Professor Xu also expressed her gratitude to the founding team and the faculty of the School of Biomedical Engineering for their hard work.
Professor Li Song, director of Bioengineering Department of UCLA, analyzed the opportunity and development of MED-X journal. According to Li, the field of biomedical engineering has the characteristics of multi-disciplinary intersection, which will make the development of journals have strong vitality. At the same time, Professor Li Song stressed that MED-X will also be committed to building a high-level disciplinary platform, providing an open and inclusive environment for scientists, entrepreneurs, doctors and policy managers in the interdisciplinary fields of health, medicine and industry to maintain close communication and spark innovation.
In his speech on behalf of the editorial board, Academician Feng Dagan of the University of Sydney mentioned that, relying on the excellent academic resources of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, MED-X has invited more than 20 leading academic figures with high international academic reputation to join the journal. Moreover, it will further weave the experts at home and abroad active in the forefront of biomedical engineering into a network to form a high-quality and efficient editorial team.
Chen Jun, professor from the University of California, Los Angeles, made suggestions for the development path of the journal in the early stage from seven aspects, such as article publication quality, journal impact factors, outstanding contribution awards, special issue on special topics, review requirements, text and picture typesetting, and expanding publicity channels.
