WLA Asia Pacific Future Insight Forum Successfully Held

On November 5, 2022,  co-planned by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and World World Laureates Association (WLA), the 5th WLA Asia Pacific Future Insight Forum was successfully held in Shanghai Science Hall-Versailles.

Michael Levitt, 2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry; Barry Marshall, 2005 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine; Christopher Pissarides, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economics; Gurdev Khush, 2000 Wolf Prize Laureate in Agriculture; Raymond Stevens, 2020 China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award Laureate; Fan Xianqun and Ning Guang, Chinese Academy of Engineering; Tao Ran, China Resources Pharmaceutical Group Limited; Zhu Xinyuan Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave a keynote speech. Ding Xianting, School of Biomedical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University host roundtable discussions.

Zhu Xinyuan delivered a speech on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He said that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and WLA have been cooperating for a long time since 2018. They share the same concepts in scientific and technological innovation and talent training, and common responsibilities in major basic research. The WLA Asia-Pacific Forum will center on the theme of the 5th World Laureates Association Forum: “SCIENCE FORWARD: CREATE A BRIGHT FUTURE”.

Michael Levitt said that learning from each other is the biggest secret to the future of not only the Asia-Pacific region but also the world.

 

 

During the keynote speech, Ning Guang, Fan Qianqun, Gurdev Khush, Barry Marshall and Christopher Pissarides delivered presentations on diabetes status and strategy in China, development of treatment models for malignant tumors, food safety in the Asia-Pacific region, Can we Control viral diseases in the 21st Century, economic development and international cooperation.

During the roundtable discussions, WLA scientists, APEC representatives and business leaders will discuss on how to revive the economy and promote social development through scientific innovation and international cooperation in this region.

To secure inclusive, healthy and sustained growth and prosperity in Asia-Pacific entails building a shared community of greater openness, connectivity and balance.
