From July 16th to 21st, 2023, one of the most influential international conferences in the field of 3D reconstruction in radiology and nuclear medicine - the International Meeting on Fully Three-Dimensional Image Reconstruction in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine (Fully 3D) - took place at Stony Brook University in New York State, USA. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in collaboration with Southern Medical University, successfully won the bid to host the important international conference in Shanghai in 2025 (the 18th edition), competing against a team from Seoul, South Korea.

The conference saw the appointment of Professor Zhao Jun (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Professor Ma Jianhua (Southern Medical University), and Associate Professor Huang Qiu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University) as the co-chairs for the Fully 3D 2025 international conference. Associate Professor Huang Qiu, who recently won the Tracy Lynn Faber Memorial Award (becoming the first Mainland Chinese scientist to receive this honor), represented the bidding team with an excellent presentation and Q&A session at the conference.

The Fully 3D international conference began in 1991 and is held biennially, rotating between the United States and other countries. The conference focuses on the latest advancements in multi-dimensional biomedical image reconstruction algorithms and computational methods, including but not limited to X-ray CT imaging, PET and SPECT imaging, ultrasound, MRI imaging, and other imaging techniques that have been added to the conference agenda in recent years. Attendees mainly consist of professional researchers from universities, research institutes, and industries worldwide.

The School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has conducted in-depth research in 3D CT imaging, nuclear medicine imaging, ultrasound imaging, and MRI imaging, dating back to the 1980s. The research achievements have been universally recognized and highly praised by peers both at home and abroad. The successful bid to host Fully 3D 2025 international conference demonstrates international recognition of the academic status of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's medical imaging team. It carries significant importance in enhancing Shanghai Jiao Tong University's international influence, fostering international peer exchanges, and promoting information about domestic and international medical imaging equipment enterprises.
