2024 School-Opening Ceremony

On September 18th, the Biomedical Engineering College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) welcomed its new cohort of 2024 with a rousing opening ceremony and orientation held at the Student Center's A100 Auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of the college's leadership, including Party Committee Secretary Chen Jiangping, Dean Liao Hong'en, Deputy Party Committee Secretary Zhou Shenshen, Deputy Deans Ye Jian, Bai Jingfeng, and Sun Jianqi, along with 2024 class advisors, faculty representatives, academic counselors, and all new undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.
The ceremony was skillfully moderated by Deputy Party Committee Secretary Zhu Chunling. Dean Liao Hong'en delivered a warm welcome address, highlighting the college's distinctive educational philosophy, its rapid development, and the mission of biomedical engineers. He encouraged students to seize opportunities, face challenges, and strive to become top talents in their new journey. Drawing from his nearly three decades of experience in the medical engineering field, he urged the new students to be innovative, to break through barriers, and to cultivate disruptive and breakthrough thinking and abilities. He also encouraged them to be ambitious, resilient, and to develop a strong mindset focused on excellence and self-transcendence.
To leverage the interdisciplinary strengths of medical engineering and to inspire academic aspirations, the college has appointed several young talents as class advisors for the 2024 cohort. Zhou Shenshen announced the list of new class advisors, and Chen Jiangping presented them with their appointment letters.
Han Bing, representing the new class advisors, shared her experiences in learning and teaching, using a formula and two laws to emphasize the importance of time and self-management. She encouraged students to embrace challenges and strive for success at SJTU's Biomedical Engineering College, transforming their potential into a fulfilling youth.
Peng Tianyu, a representative of the undergraduate students, spoke next. Having just completed military training, Peng shared his insights and aspirations for the university life that lies ahead, inviting his peers to join him in envisioning a bright future.
Gao Chenhao, a representative of the graduate students, reflected on his undergraduate journey and called on the new students to hold onto their dreams, be down-to-earth, and be bold in their actions and achievements. He urged them to contribute to the "Healthy China" initiative with new vigor.
In conclusion, Zhu Chunling reminded the students of the wise words of the former principal Tang Wenzhi, encouraging them to "harden their character, achieve first-class scholarship, and excel in their careers and talents" as they embark on this new chapter of their lives.
