On January 11, 2025, the 2025 Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Young Scholars Forum on Biomedical Engineering, hosted by the School of Biomedical Engineering, successfully concluded at the Minhang Campus. This forum invited seven outstanding young scholars and scientists in the field of biomedical engineering from top universities and research institutions at home and abroad to gather online, focusing on the frontiers of the field and sparking academic discussions.

Xu Xuemin, Vice Chairman of the University Council of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Liao Hong'en, Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Gao Weiqiang, Dean of the Med-X Research Institute, and Gu Hongchen, Ye Jian and other 11 college leaders, senior professors and key teachers attended the event on site. Teachers and students in the school as well as postdocs participated online. The opening ceremony was chaired by Dean Liao Hong'en.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Dean Liao first extended a warm welcome to the seven young scholars from home and abroad and the teachers and students of the school who were invited to participate. He also sincerely thanked the college leaders, senior professors and key teachers who attended the event on site and enthusiastically introduced the young scholars. Subsequently, he provided a detailed introduction to the current development of the college from aspects such as the scale of school running, discipline construction, teaching staff, scientific research strength, talent cultivation and educational philosophy. He pointed out that since its establishment, all teachers and students in the college have promoted discipline construction with the spirit of "daring to be the first and striving for excellence", creating a harmonious atmosphere in which everyone participates and works together to build a first-class discipline. With the joint efforts of all, the School of Biomedical Engineering is full of vitality and developing rapidly. The college will, as always, attach great importance to the introduction and cultivation of young talents and sincerely invite all young scholars to fully communicate with the teachers and students of the college through this forum to enhance mutual understanding.

Seven young scholars and scientists from renowned institutions such as Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University, University College London, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and National University of Singapore delivered excellent academic reports and held discussions in research fields such as biomedical instruments, nanotechnology, molecular and regenerative medicine, imaging, computing and systems biomedicine.

The International Young Scholars Forum on Biomedical Engineering aims to establish a free and diverse academic discussion platform to promote the exchange of ideas among outstanding young scholars at home and abroad. Each session has received enthusiastic responses from young scholars and scientists from top universities and research institutions at home and abroad. It has become one of the most anticipated and actively participated activities for teachers and students engaged in interdisciplinary research of medicine, science and engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The college will continue to welcome outstanding young talents with higher-quality platforms, broader visions and mindsets. Adhering to the core concepts of "interdisciplinary integration of medicine and engineering, internationalization and innovation transformation", it will build a top-notch and world-class biomedical engineering discipline and teaching staff in China and continue to contribute to the Healthy China Initiative with the strength of biomedical engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University!
