Professor Lixu GU received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Toyohashi University of Technology, Toyohashi, Japan in 1999. Thereafter, he moved to Canada and worked at Robarts Research Institute for three years in Image guided Surgery and Therapy, where he was responsible for the research and software development of the medical image analysis. In 2003, Dr. Gu moved to Computer Science of Shanghai Jiaotong University, where he set up and direct the laboratory of image guided surgery and therapy, and appointed as a professor at the school of Biomedical Engineering and the Institute of Medical Robotics.

His research interests include Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Medical Image Analysis, Computer Graphics &Virtual Reality, Medical Robotics, Image guided Surgery and Therapy. Dr. Gu is the author of over 200 papers on related research area, and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was awarded the best poster in the 17th congress of computer assisted radiology and surgery in London, UK, in 2003. He served as an associate editor for both the IEEE Trans. On Information Technology in Biomedicine and the International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery. He is also active in the international research groups of ISBI, MIAR, ITAB and EMBC.
