Dr. Jianlong Yang is an Associate Professor (Tenure-Track) of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). His research interest is to develop light-based technologies for the precision, minimal invasion, and intelligence of diagnostic and therapeutic devices. He is particularly interested in developing (1) functional 3D/4D endoscopy based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) for monitoring thermal treatment of tumor and intravascular lesion; (2) novel fiber-optic devices for medical sensing, imaging, and therapy; (3) Explainable data-driven methods for treatment evaluation and prognosis prediction.

Dr. Yang received his PhD in Optical Engineering in 2015 from the Laboratory for Laser Plasmas, Department of Physics, SJTU. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher from 2016 to 2018 at the Center for Ophthalmic Optics & Lasers leaded by Prof. David Huang (a co-inventor of OCT) at Oregon Health and Science University. Before joining SJTU, His was a “Chun Lei Talent” Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Yang has published more than sixty peer-reviewed scientific papers (more than thirty as the first and/or corresponding author) in Optics Letters, Photonics Research, Biomedical Optics Express, Journal of Biophotonics, JAMA Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Medical Image Analysis, IEEE Transaction on Medical Imaging, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, etc. He has applied for more than twenty CN/US/PCT invention patents. Eleven of them have been granted. He has presided or participated more than a dozen of China and US research projects and received funding supports of more than four million RMB yuan as the principal investigator. He pioneered the technology of handheld OCT angiography, which has been widely used in the clinical research of pediatric diseases. He cofounded CETC Txstar Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Unfold Therapeutics Co. for the commercialization of the laser and therapeutic technologies he invented.
