Biography

Guangyu Qiu is an Associate Professor and PhD Supervisor at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research group focuses on photonic biosensing and point-of-care testing (POCT) for disease diagnostics. In recent years, he has been engaged in both fundamental studies and technology development in biophotonic sensing, and has pioneered a dual-functional plasmonic “photothermal” biosensing strategy as well as high-performance ceramic biomaterials for biomedical sensing. He conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface of medicine, engineering, and fundamental sciences, spanning clinical biomedical applications, point-of-care diagnostics and biosensing, and sensor-integrated medical robotics. As a technical lead, he has led or participated in the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project, one Ministry of Science and Technology Key R&D Program project, and two Shanghai Jiao Tong University medical–engineering interdisciplinary projects. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in micro/nano-optics and biosensing, including 21 high-impact articles as first or corresponding author in journals such as Chemical Society Reviews, ACS Nano, and Advanced Science. He also holds ten granted patents in China and internationally. His representative achievements have been featured by CCTV International and highlighted in authoritative journals such as Nature Nanotechnology, with his related research recognized as internationally leading.

The group continuously recruits outstanding postdoctoral researchers as well as PhD and Master’s students in relevant areas. For inquiries, please email: guangyuqiu@sjtu.edu.cn. Academic discussions and collaborations are warmly welcomed.

Areas of Research Interests

Grounded in frontier physical phenomena in micro-/nano-photonics and light–matter interactions, our group develops high-performance, intelligent sensing technologies and devices for biomedical applications. Driven by key challenges and major needs in point-of-care testing and clinical diagnostics, our research includes:

  • Photonic biosensing technologies and devices
  • Plasmonic (LSPR/SPR/Plasmonic) sensing materials and nanophotonics
  • Optofluidic and microfluidic high-throughput biosensing
  • Biochemical sensing systems for medical robotics
  • Point-of-care diagnostics and early cancer screening
Teaching
